Go easy on the Weiner

He's had a rough couple of weeks, taking a beating every day as it were.  He's been a stand up guy up before this mess splashed all over our screens and the media spurted every new detail as it came.  But to his credit he's still standing tall, head erect, chin thrust out and refusing to go down.  I don't care what you say, that takes balls.  Hopefully this tawdry episode has reached it's climax.  He's beginning to wilt, after pouring it all out there as he has, he's starting to run out of juice.

He'll go down soon, it's inevitable.  He's almost certainly blown his chance for re-election in the immediate future, but did he piss away his entire career?  Will Weiner rise again?  Or just swing limply in the wind? I think he has a chance to resurrect himself, but not until after we've all had a good rest.  A nice sandwich and little nap wouldn't hurt either.

Some weiners are just meant to be shared.
Many would ask 'why should we give this creep a break?'.  I have a better question, 'why should you care?'.  He's not your spiritual advisor, your baby sitter or your therapist.  Your personal life and his are completely separate.  His wife should care.  But that's their private business.  Bill Clinton didn't respect his marriage either, but it didn't keep him from being a good president who left us with a nice budget surplus when his terms were over.

Compare that to the devout monogamist who followed him and gave us a very costly war begun under false pretenses and irresponsible spending that put us in the deepest financial hole the US has ever been in.  It's very clear to me that sexual proclivities and leadership qualities are mutually independent traits.

The worst thing about this whole mess in the inordinate coverage on the part of the media fed by the inordinate interest on the part of the public. If you don't know or need to know the private sex lives of your doctors and dentists, who have their hands in your mouth and other orifices, then why would you need to know about that aspect of your politicans' lives?  Does not the bloody upheaval in the middle east or the possible start of the second half of a double dip recession deserve more attention?

Methinks it's high time the body politic pulled it's head from its ass, or Weiner's pants as the case may be, and refocus attention of things that need it.

  1. As a truck driver, I'm thinking that wiener must have been a bitch to deliver. Would it still be a regulation wiener if it were, like, curled up or something? Naw, people are extremely Puritannical about their wiener contests. I can only assume that China is, too. Or Japan or wherever that is.

  2. Very good points, and great puns. I've obviously heard Weiner's name being tossed around, but I honestly couldn't tell you why he's in the news. Just not interested.

  3. Why, you really are a forgiving God, aren't you? I thought that was just a myth. I'm glad it's not. And I hope the general population can be just as forgiving. Anthony has done a lot of good for his constituents.

  4. Ha! For me it's just another politician doing his/her thing or in this case thingie. Ha!

I get tired of it. And I do try not to judge others, but it gets sooooo tiring of yet another politician being a weenie.

And that's why I only watch the news about 3 times a week. Between weiners and Casey Anthony,

    It's mentally eggshausting.

  5. You know how I feel about this matter. It's really a shame that we confuse public figures with people who owe us explanations. I don't care about his silly on-line transgressions. I did care that he was passionate enough to fight for what he believed in. Clinton, Edwards, Arnie, Weiner do not owe me an apology. Everybody has a back story. I do too. But that is not anyone's business. The press are hungry jackals feeding our most base interests. This should have never received the attention it did.

  7. He's resigned, poor fellow. And his wife is being counseled by Hilldog, who knows what she's going through.

  9. I agree with you and Linda! Let him play with his weiner if thats what he wants to do,I could care less! I find it so sad that this is what people are focusing on...when there is so much that needs our attention.

  10. I don't have a problem with his morals, I have a problem with his stupidity. I will never understand how it was possible for him to believe he could post photos of his dick on the Internet and he'd never be found out. Seriously? Maybe the risk was part of the thrill, I don't know. If it was just him he had to be concerned about, fine. Have a ball. But to not consider what being found out would mean to his pregnant wife, not to mention his mom and dad -- beyond comprehension. I can just see his poor mom after years of going to temple bragging about her son the Congressman and now this. The poor woman probably wants to shoot herself. A sad affair all around. But he can come back. Americans have short memories and are big on second chances. If he lies low for a while and does his rehab penance he'll be fine. Look at Clinton. He could probably get elected again (despite DADT, DOMA, NAFTA, telecom and bank deregulation). And now back to our regular programming...

  11. I think it goes to show you that Reps and Dems are not all that different. Either can get caught with their hands in the candy jar. Sometimes it's boys with boys, sometimes it boys with girls but all the time it shouldn't matter. Politics has become so divisive that more time and energy is spent on looking for and jumping on any weakness or imperfection to rip the other guy down than there is spent on getting America back to work and solvent again. Mass fail.

Could not agree more, my friend.

  13. I'm Canadian. Our politicians are very boring. As a matter of fact, if one were to do what Weiner's been doing, he'd gain in popularity. We'd love it! As for Weiner, well, I'm with you. I don't know why everybody is critiquing his politics. However, I will say this: it's almost like the guy is oblivious to the controversy.

  14. Sadly, this if he handles it well (and so far he hasn't) this could actually help his career. Our culture seems to love a beaten (pun not intended, much) hero who admits his faults, gets help, and comes back. My concern is that his lack of judgment and critical thinking in his personal live is an indicator of his judgment and critical in his professional life. To me those are rather critical skills needed for politics and I'm afraid he isn't showing them.
